Week 7: lines

Lit. Circle essays (due 3/4)

We started class by walking in and taking a minute. Then, Bennett and Asal read their blog and picked me. I walked up and Ms. Nakada logged into the computer so I could start this blog. we started talking about a speech about women's rights that was by Sojourner Truth, but is being told by Carrie Washington in the video we watched. After the video we discussed the speech and about what it meant. The speech was about how women can do things that men can, and how men get treated better than women, and white people get treated better than black women. The topic is a little better now but it could definitely still use some fixing.

We talked about de-humanizing people and used Hitler calling the Jewish people vermin or slave owners using slurs like the N-word. Zack was disrupting the class again and didn't have most of his notes written down. We talked about how she had to watch her children get sold away to slavery, and how nobody cared about her pain from both the whip and her children.

Then, we talked about how they didn't let women vote because they weren't smart enough, but they didn't go to school. She also talked about how Jesus was a man but her counter argument was that a woman bore him. then, we started work on our essays. Lucas came up to Ms. Nakada and asked her if his intro was a W intro. Lena kept asking if she could use her computer and Ms. Nakada finally gave in and let her use it to look up Rosa Parks.

Zack said his reasoning was that Hitler and the Nazis were bad people, which is true, but he also said that Anne Frank, who was in hiding with her family, had lost her parents. I asked Stuart a question but he ignored me (rude). Johnny and Malakai were fighting with their pencils instead of doing their work, and Ms. Nakada was talking to Solomon about his essay. Solomon was explaining something to Lucas. Ms. Nakada said we had to include a quote in every body paragraph. I finished my first body paragraph and just as I did I checked the clock and it's already 12:47. That was all for this class.

Also, I choose whoever the class majority votes for between Ryan, Nylah, Zack, Joseph, or Jason.      (Class gets to vote!)

Week 7: song

Lit. circle essays

HW: Essays due 3/2, read toward IRP goal

When we walked into class we sat down and wrote our agendas. Then, we took a minute, and Spirit went up to read her blog. I asked her if she could choose me, and she said yes. Solomon got moved and asked if that was his permanent seat. The song was called "***Flawless" by BeyoncΓ© feat Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The song was about women's empowerment. We talked more about their choice of word and why they used them. After that, we talked about how different people are able to use different words. I thought that the boys in the back felt like women's empowerment was not important. Then, there was a arguement and I blocked it out. We had a debate over the differences between how women and men get treated. Solomon was very involved in it. There was a lot of yelling in the class. We talked about the tone of the song which was mostly confidence and frustration. Soon after, we took out our essays, the bell rang and we had to leave.

We choose Aidan L.

Lit circle essays

Hw: Essays due 3/2. Read toward IRP goal!

As we all came into class and sat down. I had to ask Demetrius to do the blog. After I asked him to do the blog, we did our take a minute. I had to kinda argue with him about wanting to do the blog, but he finally agreed to let me do it after saying he wasn't going to pick me because I wanted to do the blog. What he doesn't know, is that I kinda like doing the blog.

Then, Ms. Nakada started to jump into the question for week 7. As we were doing that, we talked about different identities, and Ms. Nakada had to talk to Zack and his friends.

After all of that, we took out our essays prompts. Ms. Nakada started to tell the students that haven't got their essay prompts to number them one thru three so she could pick one for us work on. Ms. Nakada then came up to me and asked me if she had already picked my essay prompts and of course I said yes because she did. After that, we all got into our essay prompts. Then, Ms. Nakada asked us to take a piece of note book paper out so we could get right into our essays and then she asked us some questions about our essays and our prompts. Of course, Ms. Nakada asked Stuart and Zack  about their essays. Ms. Nakada  continued to ask about our essays and gave us good advice about how to write our essays. Then, the bell rang but that was it for today byeeee.

Literature Circle essays

HW: Essays due 3/2. Read toward IRP Goal!

We started class by George and Stuart reading their blog. George finished his blog and then picked Demetrius. Demetrius picked me to do the blog with him, so we both sat down and started working. Once I sat down from coming back from the office, I saw Jackson working on the blog. A second later, I looked over at Lena, and she was sleeping. Then, Ms. Nakada started calling Lena's name to try and wake her up, but eventually Valentina poked her which woke her up. While we were working on our Grammar which was about essay basics. Ms. Nakada then gave us our preparation essay, and I started working on my thesis. Ms. Nakada was trying to teach Solomon. When I turned around to stretch my back I saw Valentina making a face that looked like a silent scream. A little while later Stuart tapped my with his pencil and made a like sad pug face. Zack got called out by Ms. Nakada because he didn't write anything on his paper. Kaiden kept distracting me, and he yelled out my sisters name(Kristen). Then, the bell rang, and we left.

Week 6: Quiz

We started off class by Jackson, who got a really amazing haircut, and the Birthday boy Zack, Reading their blog. It was amazing because Jackson wrote it, (he's such a good boy) and Zack was there too. They chose me, and I wanted to pick Kaiden to come help me , but he said no, so I picked Sturt. I was ok with his choice since George is so aura( he isn't but i have to be nice) Ms. Nakada was going around checking the summaries people wrote in their binder reminder. Then Jason did some weird thing while looking at me and it was so cool. We did our test shortly after and I got amazing score (unlike George) I got a good score, and Solomon was gazing at me lovingly (I love you too) and Jackson was rubbing his scalp, btw w haircut (It looks really goodπŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹) Ms. Nakada checked my binder reminder and I got a good score. The Birthday Boy was being really funnny and he looked a lot older, I wanted to sing to him but he said no 😭. poor George I saw Lena lick water off the table which is gross but whatever works for her and Ms. Nakada was disgusted tooπŸ˜–. George was being a weirdo looking at me like a creep. And when he saw me type this he got really scarcastic (he said i speeled it wrong)

Then the bell rang and we packed up and left class.

I asked Solomon to be my partner and he agreed like a good boy!! Stuart skipped out of the classroom to go to the bathroom then, we moved on to the grammar of the week which was the difference of then and than. My little Solomon is soooo good at reading and writing. He's just so cool!! Then, we talked about the quote by Katherine Johnson which was about actually learning the content in school. I really only go to school for my pookie Solomon. (///~///)  We then took out a piece of notebook paper for the SLC letters. We then started writing our letters to our parents and letting them know how English class is going and what we were doing in English class. We were discussing topics to write about for our SLC letters and, Malacutie was making silly faces towards me. It was weird, but he's so beautiful. ❤😍😎 Solomon and I were just writing our letters. I started to cry, because I thought Zak and I were friends.😿😭😣 Lena got up to see her iReady grade, and Demetrius was staring at me with his tongue out!! Spooky!

week 5: Question

literature circles

HW Read 100 pages in lit circles this week.

Book projects due Thursday

Once we entered class, the tables from earlier when we had testing hadn't been moved yet. So, before we sat down, we rearranged the tables to go back to their original spot. We then sat down and listened to Noely and Briella read their blog. They had chosen me to do it. I then asked Zoe to do it with me.

After writing down our blogs we began listening to our song of the week "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinead O'Connor. It was a song about the death of a relationship. Then, Ms. Nakada told us to go into our literature circles.

After that, Ms. Nakada mentioned how person number one aka Zack wasn't here, yet Jackson still slipped into the role early. While we were reading Jackson then spilled his sprite all over Lucas' backpack and made a mess. After we were done reading, we wrote down our summaries in our English books.

Ms. Nakada then started to pass out our lines for the week. After that, class was then over, and we headed to sixth period.

Literature circles

HW: Read 100 pages in literature circles this week. Book projects due Thursday.

We started off class by taking a minute. Then, Spirit read her blog. Once Spirit finished her blog, she picked Briella and me, because we were the only people who hadn't gone yet. We transitioned to reviewing our grammar and the quote from yesterday. We talked about how Nicola Yoon doesn't believe in love and whether it's possible to make someone fall in love with someone else. I made a joke about how I would make someone fall in love by baking cookies and putting a tear in them because that happens in the movie, Descendants, and we thought if I said that not many people would understand. Then, we heard Zoe and Nylah mention it. After that, Ms. Nakada said it was time for reader's workshop, and so people got up to go to their groups and read. We're now realizing we didn't write a lot, but there wasn't a lot to write about, anyways, so, this is the end of our blog. We pick Ryan!

Week 4: quiz

As we all came in class, we sat down and jumped right into taking a minute. After we took a minute, we read Lena's blog and we also corrected it. After we were done, Ms. Nakada asked who has not did the blog, so I raised my hand because, I mean, I haven't, but I already knew Lena was going to pick me because I have been asking to do the blog for quit some time now.

As we got done with the blog, and with who was going to do it, we went right into our literature circles, but it was quite loud. Then, I heard someone say it was really cold, and I agreed  it was really cold. As Jackson put his hands on his friend Lucas, they went back to reading. I also heard Nylah reading to her group.

While, on the other hand, Aiden was by himself, because I guess his friends didn't come. Then, Zack didn't get the notes and asked Ms. Nakada for them. She responded with, ask your peers for the notes. Then he just went on about things that had nothing to do with the literature circles, aiden begin to ask Ms.Nakakda about the book she didn't look surprised because this is her job after all and I think she likes it very much even thought sometimes it can get really hard.

By the way i didn't read my book at all today because  i was writing this blog but it's fine ill read it over the weekend, then the timer went off for us to stop reading in our literature circles Ms. Nakada began to ask what pages we got to and everyone told her where they where at, then Ms. Nakada went around checking binder reminders. As she did that, everyone was talking to their friends. Then, Jackson came up to the front and stared to talk to Aiden. Solomon began to argue with Zack about soccer and other sports. Sandra came in late, then had a quick conversation with Ms. Nakada. Then, we hopped into our test for week four. As we started the quiz it was very quiet for the first time today.

As I looked over at this cutie Lena, I finished with my test by the way. I got a 10/10. That was it for today and this blog bai bai.πŸ˜“

Week 4: lines

Literature Circles

We started off class with the take a minute warm up. Then, Ms. Nakada passed out the lines for the day. We learned that the poem was about a Black man staying in the Harlem Branch Y.

Zack wanted to be special😡😭 so he added some interesting comments.

In the poem, he told us what he likes, and he tells us how similar being Black is to being white. I was staring at Ms. Nakada's pretty nails on the projector. She was kinda making a fire oration when she went through the poem with us.

Lucas was doing VERY offensive gestures JUST WOW BRO πŸ’. I cannot say the gestures, because I don't want to upset people.

Ms. Nakada handed us a paper for some reason. Evan started purring πŸ˜¬πŸ™€πŸ’€. Then, Ms. Nakada told us what to write! Our page for English 8. I wonder what everyone's writing. I wrote the most random stuff ever. No one wanted to share their page. Evan let me read his page. I'm concerned for his safety, but it was really good.

Next, we moved to our literature circles. Bro, Lea and Evan didn't read what they were supposed to read, and that was annoying. I really like our book All American Boys. I'm on page 126.

Week 4: Song
Literature circles

Homework; Read 100 pages of your literature circles books.

When I walked into class, I thought the same routine would happen. I walk in, sit down, write the agenda, draw, write in my notebook, draw, and then literature circles. But, when Valentina nudged my leg, I had a feeling I would get called out. Ms. Nakada wanted me to do the blog, and Val already knew I'd choose her as a partner.

After we got chosen for the blog, I stood up, and dragged Kate with me. I asked her which one of our computers we would use for the blog and she already had her own out so we used that one. Ms. Nakada started playing the song of the week which I thought was actually a really good song. I wrote it down in my notebook as Ms. Nakada put the blog on Kate's computer and she started to write.
When the song ended, I started writing. I looked over to the side to see Kate drawing something. Then I looked back at the computer. We talked about water references in the song, about how it related to police brutality, and the lack of freedom that we have to keep fighting for.

Once everyone was finished finding the hidden meanings and the tone of the song, we were instructed to go work in our literature circles. The class got started on the third day, and worked in their groups from 12:20-12:45. Val wouldn't stop bothering me while Stuart pulled up a chair for our literature circle.

That's a lie, I'm the nicest person in our literature circle.

Week 4: Quote / Question

Literature Circles

HW: Read 100 pages of your literature circle books.

My fourth period students walked into class and got settled. There were quite a few people absent, but once students wrote down the agenda, we watched the short take a minute video.

I went to the 6-7 Matcha Labubu 41 Blog, and I realized I'd forgotten to write it. Yesterday, Evan had read his blog and chose me. Sadly, I forgot to do it, so I'm doing it now today.

Yesterday, we'd gone over the grammar (its, the possessive v. it's the contraction / your the possessive v. you're the contraction).

We also went over the quote by Anna Julia Cooper, an advocate for Black women's education. Her quote was about the cause of freedom for all.

The question of the week was: "How can we celebrate this 100th year of Black History Month?" We discusses many different ways of celebrating like watching movies, documentaries, and supporting Black-owned businesses.

We then moved into our literature circle groups and read for 20 minutes. Students then discussed their books, and I gathered pages read. That was it for the day!
