Ten-Year Planning

We started the day by coming into the classroom and sitting down in our regular seats. Ms. Nakada put on the Take a Minute as we wrote the agenda in our binder reminders, she announced that she would be checking them today. Kate and Valentina read their blog and picked Asal, and I went up with her. After that, Ms. Nakada told us to get out our notebooks to write a quote we used in our oratories as our lines. While Aidan was writing in the blog I took time to write the two A.C.E quick writes she had given us. They were about what we learned as a reader and writer. Then, we took out our computers to take the quiz. I was on the last question when someone pointed out a mistake, and we all had to re-take the quiz. After I finished my quiz I started writing the blog, while Aidan was editing his oratory before his audition.  Aidan grabbed his oratory. Then, he read it to me.

There are two minutes left, so we'll end the blog here.

 We choose Bennett.

HW: Original Oratories due 5/21

We started off class by taking out our binder reminders and writing down our agendas. After that, Jackson and Zack read their blog and picked me when they were done. I stood up and asked Kate to come up with me. I waited for Ms. Nakada to log in to the blog as we discussed the song of the week which was "Forever Young" by Alphaville. It was about cherishing youth because it's fleeting. Then, I went ahead and volunteered for the Poetry SLAM team and to recite my Oratory in the culmination ceremony.

Valentina and I recited our original oratories to make sure that they sounded good. We decided that we were gonna audition for the Culmination speech. She handed me the computer, and I started typing anything to fill my space for the blog. Ms. Nakada printed out my Original Oratory, and I stapled it to my original Oratory Guidelines. Valentina complained that her throat was sore, and I asked if it was because of the fire smoke, but she said that it was because she was sick. She said that she would cough on me, and I said that she already did worse. (she sneezed on me. she also just hit my back.) Ms. Nakada told her to pick up the markers that fell, and she picked up the book underneath it. It was called The Magnificent Markers: How to Test Friendship. She leaned in, looked at me, and kept asking if I wanted to read it. I already said yes, Valentina.

We packed up and then went to lunch.

After Aiden read his blog, he decided to pick Ryan and I to do the next blog. After that, we did or Week 16 Song called "Keep Ya Head Up" by Tupac Shakur which was about guiding women and moms. And also questioning men on why they treat women the way they do. We then started talking about mothers day and how we should be kind to the kids and women in our life because you never know what they are going through. We then start doing our lines and we read the poem "Learning to Love America" by Shirley Geok-Lin Lim. Which was about how it's hard to love a country. And then, for some reason we started talking about how we eat artichokes and how good they are. When talking about the lines, Demetrius walked past Ryan and I. Demetrius then said, "Look at RyRy and Zozo." Ryan then fist bumped Demitrious and I thought they were so cool. I then flexed my money at Jackson. After that, we talked about what the Poem was about. We walked into class after period 3 left, and sat in our seats. As we started writing our agendas, Ms. Nakada put on the Take a Minute, which was comparing challenges to waves (I think.). After taking a minute, Lena read her blog and picked me because someone told her to. Once I walked up, Ms. Nakada told us the question, and we wrote down our personal answers before discussing. We started talking about our answers, and Ms. Nakada made a comparison between Her and Mr. Hastings, and how their moral compasses are different. After we Discussed, we started our NaPoWriMo submissions, and people started working. I finished my Poetry Collection last week, so I'm just doing my broadside now, and my poetry performance I guess. It's a short day today, so I'm ending the blog here, and the bell is about to ring.

NaPoWriMo Submissions

Ms. Nakada began class with a take a minute, and then we skipped Blog reading and wrote in our note books. We wrote down two grammar words. The words were "poetry", and "revisions".

After that, Ms. Nakada gave us the quote of the week. This quote was written by Fred Korematsu. She told us about how Fred got arrested, and more of his story. She explained how he wrote this poem about his life story. She states that he is a Japanese American activist. This quote means that you should stand up for what you know is right, even if others don't believe the same thing.

Ms. Nakada showed us how to do our Broadside poem. Then, she gave us quiet time for us to work on the project. I finished the project, and I think I did pretty well. After we did that, she told us to begin packing up and cleaning up. That was the end of class today.
